Matthew Miller

Matthew Miller is the up-and-coming London-based menswear designer bringing the unlikely combination of maths, science and rock-climbing down the catwalk. He graduated from the renowned Royal College of Art in 2009 and in the short time since then has been working to build a new breed of men’s fashion. His wearable yet forward aesthetics can be a rarity within London’s menswear set but he manages to achieve both seemingly effortlessly. As a champion of modern tailoring, Matthew Miller uses traditional techniques alongside technology and performance fabrication to create a truly modern vision. The inspiration for this second collection comes from a contemporary exploration of Dieter Rams’ design philosophy ‘Form follows function’. In today’s world form is just as important as function. One such example being Apple, who has embraced the ‘form = function’ foundations and built an incredibly strong brand. The collection is an exploration into the modern-day gentleman in actuality and the interplay between tailoring and sportswear, combining traditional suit and shirt fabrics with panels of performance materials including tyvek and neoprene. The notion of masculinity and its corresponding output is considered (input = an indeterminate number of factors / output = masculinity) and the resulting collection is centered around performance tailoring. Tyvek jackets and shorts fold up into their own pockets. Shorts are teamed with tailored jackets and casual shirts with tailored trousers. With his visionary sartorialism 'for the new millennium' and not just the current season, Matthew Miller will be one to watch for years to come.
