Qasimi

Ever heard of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's masterpiece 'The girl with the pearl earing' (1665) or the eponymous film by Peter Webber(2003) ? The idea was the inspiration of Khalil al Qasimi for this season's collection entitled 'The boy with the pearl tear'. With sensual luxury as his guiding poetic principle, the designer used cashmere and virgin wool-mix for suits, coats and pullovers in muted tones and soft luxury scoop neck knits acted as a paradox to the standard 'alpha male' persona. Continuing on with a message of high contrast, Qasimi kept to a relaxed silhouette, building up a pattern of cool pants paired with tailored tops, mainly double-breasted, as form-fitting leather trousers were paired with more visually structured tops. To complete the look, hand-woven leather accessories add to the visually and structurally strong silhouette. Classic cotton shirting has been hand-embellished with glass pearls, a distinctive final touch that pulls together the whole collection and explains the enigmatic title.
