After Nolwenn Leroy's latest offering in Breton -the dialect of Britanny-, Amaury Vassili now sings in Corsican -the dialect of île de beauté Corsica. "Sognu " ('I dream') is the title of the song the 21yo tenor will perform on May 14 to represent France at Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, Germany. Hailing from Ronciglione in the province of Viterbo, Marco Mengoni, 22, is an Italian singer who rose to fame in 2009 after winning the third season of Italian talent show 'The X Factor'. The following year, he ranked third in the 60th San Remo Music Festival (remember, the winner was Valerio Scanu -here on Morphosis). Before starting his singing career, he graduated in industrial design and he started studying languages in Rome. It was growing up as a cellist and performing all over his native New York, including Carnegie Hall recitals, singing in school musicals and choirs and, ultimately, as a student at Harvard in one of the university's acapella groups that allowed Baker to discover his sound and find the path he would follow. This product of the DIY era began recording in 2007 and has already attracted attention for his voice and keen pop sensibility. In fact, his career as a solo artist began almost by accident. While living in LA, he found himself going out every night in Hollywood and met his first producer while chatting with DJs at Teddy’s just talking about music. Emvie is the nom de plume of a French musician, singer and dancer hailing from Lyon. His name is a pun meaning 'alive' because Emvie loves life and builds up his with the private notion of making something pleasant in music and dance. He started a real career in 2009 thanks to a community website that gives artists the possibility of having an album produced by Internet users. In a room without windows, overfilled with synthesizers, guitars, records and computers, the creativity of three minds form the band Black Room (formerly known as Lorraine). By naming their album "Pop Noir", they pretty much summarize their own sound in two words. The three Norwegians got together over a common passion for moody pop, electronic sounds and live performances, making their own musical universe. Mixing catchy melodies with influences from more beat-oriented music is their trademark, and the band deliver an engraving live-show with lead singer Ole in front, suitably flanked by synthman Paal and guitarist Anders. The name Black Room was taken after the house they rehearsed in burned down to the ground, leaving little behind except songs for an album.
