For this season's collection, Massimiliano Giornetti, creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo, took the pampas route and focused on the gaucho, the partly nomadic South American cowboys. To the clip-clopping sound of horses, this gaucho rode from the wind-swept plains to the snow-capped mountains of Patagonia. Kind of a home-on-the-range thing happening, if your home happens to be Fifth Avenue and your idea of a cowboy is more sunburnt than Marlboro Man. Chunky knit scarves big enough to double as horse blankets, distressed suede riding boots, and plenty of earth-tonery all around. And because even a cowboy gets invited to formal events now and then, a selection of velvet loafers, jacquard dinner jackets, and paisley silk scarves. Maximize your options but think big !
