Highland

Highland was founded by three American talents : Lizzie Owens, Mike Franks and Cramer Toboe. They opened their Venice Beach studio in 2008 where they specialize in menswear. Designer Lizzie Owens, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, spent four years at TSE, the cashmere brand, where she created menswear and womenswear, but also dressed many bands, including The Killers, and MGMT. She notably made the costumes worn by the stoned dancers in their "Electric feel" video clip. If Highland's first collection had a strong American spotswear vibe, the second one for this season takes inspiration from Westerns and Charlie Brown. Indian fabrics, blacksmith jackets, and Sergio Leone-style duster coats mix easily with basic workwear. Indeed, dungarees and aprons, with this special DIY and rebellious edge. The key pieces are a lightweight toggle coat, a sturdy sweater, and shirts in ikat print with breast pockets big enough to store a shitload of trail mix. Lizzie Owens described her collection as a line of "clothes for guys who don't like to shop except maybe for a backpack". Now based in New York, Highland proves to be a quite irreverent yet totally cool label with Southwestern roots.
