New Power Studio is a British label that specializes in peppy urban clothing for men, and sometimes women and children. After working as a stylist for such fash mags as i-D and Another Man, Thom Murphy could design his first collection with partner Ebru Ercon in 2009. This season's collection was inspired by domectic life, as you can see in the show video. It produced chic but streetwise outfits, jogging pants that looked like bin bags, four guys doing a bogroll ballet choreographed by Benoit of Michael Clark Company, or a huge unidentified monster made of kitchen mittens. "Staging shows with a mise en scène and a healthy doe of humor is essential", says the designer. For here is Thom Murphy 's winning formula : cool, well-made and unpredictable clothes. And it's already payed off : last month, he graced the shop windows at Selfridges in London as part of their Bright New Things project.
